Etymology
Originally the plural formation of Aramaic לֵילְיָא/ܠܹܠܝܵܐ (lēlyā), and ultimately from Proto-Semitic *layl-; compare Arabic لَيْلَة (layla), Hebrew לַיְלָה (láyla) and Akkadian 𒆥𒋝 (līliātum).
