  • The Paris Commune, Paris's municipal government, is run by radical Jacobin republicans. They exert strong influence on the national government.[1]
  • French peasants storm the Tuileries and kill the king's Swiss guards.[2]

September

  • The September Massacres see nearly 2,000 people killed by mobs in Paris and other French cities.[3]
  • France's new National Convention is elected through general sufferage, though turnout is very low. The Convention formally abolishes the monarchy and has Louis Capet arrested.[1]
