- 1939-1945: World War II
- Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union sign the secret Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, which divides Poland between the two.[1]
- The Free Council and the Diamond Orders in Europe have developed an emissary system to allow better communication between the two groups.[2]
- The American Dust Bowl, a long period of drought resulting from new farming methods, ends.[3]
- Former Bishopsgate Director Weaver dies of stomach cancer in prison. The asylum goes up for auction, being bought by Thomas Werner, the doctor who blew the whistle on Weaver's embezzlement and Gorlay's experiments in the first place.[5]
- The 1939 World's Fair opens in Flushing Meadows, New York, under the shadow of the war in Europe. Its theme is "The World of Tomorrow" until the outbreak of the war, when it changes to "For Peace and Freedom."[6]
- Confessions of a Nazi Spy, the first openly anti-Nazi film by a major studio, is released.[9]
