Jasper Knowles
Jasper Knowles was a Tremere and a scholar. He also was a mentor to another Tremere, Invidia Caul, and had a good working relationship with both Lettow Kaminsky, Prince of Tucson, and Aila, a Banu Haqim elder and Lettow's lover.
Biography
Knowles is described as white and apple-cheeked with short grey beard, portly in a way that vampires rarely are, more like an avuncular college professor.
Knowles used to partake in a rather gruesome experiments, in BioSphere Zero and possibly elsewhere. He used unconventional means such as torture to "break and then rebuild" a number of vampires, with various results. Out of all Knowles' test subjects two may be considered most troublesome: a Nosferatu named Modian, who ended up a wight, and a Gangrel called Lampago, to whom Knowles managed to return her human shape, and also appeared to somewhat enhance her existing shapeshifting capabilities. He also restored her ability to speak and think straight. Both of them will cause a lot of trouble to the Courier during their nights in Tucson.
Jasper Knowles met his Final Death some time prior November 1, the starter date of Vampire: The Masquerade - Night Road. His research caught attention of a Banu Haqim Julian Sim. In order to obtain the research data, Julian released Modian, causing the wight to attack Knowles. Even the Warlock's mastery of Fortitude couldn't save him from being torn to shreds. The recording of Knowles' Final Death is, in fact, what the Courier must deliver to Prince Lettow at the beginning.
Trivia
- Knowles' tajtIq (ceremonial silver knife) ended up in Elena Prodan's Covenant Pawn Shop in Tucson. The Courier will find it there while looking for a car first time and, although they can't afford it, can ask Elena about it. If the Courier pass required check, Elena will remember certain things about how she got it.
- Knowles appeared to be one of a few elders who chose to maintain a what is called "flesh and blood identity". In his case, Knowles "inherited his grandfather's construction business" (or, to put it simply, pretended to die, and then return under a disguise of his own grandson).
