Indicates urban/rural/other default set of traffic rules applies to this road.
Group: restrictions
Documented values: 11
Status: in use
This tag indicates which set of implicit traffic rules apply to a particular road (rules not set explicitly by signs). Each value of this tag is associated with a different set of default traffic rules.
Because default traffic rules vary from country to country, values are country-specific (or region-specific if traffic regulations vary within the country). The traffic regulations of most countries distinguish at least two zones: urban (inside the built-up area / city limits) and rural (outside the built-up area / city limits).
All values follow the format <ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code or ISO 3166-2 region code >:<rural or urban or something else>.
If both sides of a road lie in a different zone, e.g. because the road follows a national border, then you can use :left =* and :right =*.
