Court of the North Star
The Court of the North Star was an inter-freehold political structure created and led by Madame Estelle in 17th-century France. It was not a proper Court in the sense commonly used by changelings; rather, it was a court in the mortal sense, being comprised of Estelle's entourage.
Overview
Created alongside the Accord of the Spheres by the coalition of the Paris, Lyons, and Marseille freeholds, the North Star was centered around Estelle’s Hollow of Brocéliande, which lay on the outskirts of Paris. Due to the political power that the North Star embodied, this Hollow would come to house ambassadors from each freehold which signed on to the Accord.
The Court followed the highly-structured daily life of its empress, Estelle, with a strict schedule for rising, and an equally strict curfew which could only be broken by the empress and her favorites. Despite this rigid structure, the Court was far from sterile or robotic — the arts generally, and music specifically, were well regarded, and musical performances were a common means by which one could enter the empress’s good graces.
Naturally, not all groups or individuals were fond of this new, powerful player in the political realm. The Knights of St. Collen were known to derisively refer to the empress as the “Dog Star”, while politically powerful individuals within the Nantes and Saint-Malo freeholds, the Summer kings Gildas and Perronik in particular, agitated against the signing of the Accord.
