Knighthood of Utmost Silence

The Knighthood of Utmost Silence is an order that helps clients “disappear”, setting them up with new lives elsewhere.

Background

My steps confound all hunters. Follow them. My voice is silent before them. Listen. On my life, they will not find you.

Few know the value of keeping a low profile better than the Lost, eternal fugitives from their Keepers that they are. These knights are dedicated to helping changelings escape on a moment’s notice, whether it be from the True Fae or from more mundane trouble. Understanding the usefulness of information, the Knights of Utmost Silence never speak of their charges, whether among allies, enemies, or strangers; even by Winter Court standards, they are secretive.

Organization

The Knights do not maintain a formal organization. They only meet on irregular occasions, when called by the most senior among them — the Quiet Marshal. The Marshal acts as an information hub for the scattered Knights and deals with freehold politics in their stead. As such, he usually deals with fewer missions than the common Knight. The only distinct rank are the Whispersquires, the green recruits, recently interviewed.

Joining and Membership

Prerequisites: Wyrd 3, Stealth 2, Subterfuge 2, Weaponry 1, Mantle (Winter) 1
Title: Silent Knight

Once, the order recruited outriders and troubadours; in this day and age, however, they seek out hackers, counterfeiters and real estate moguls, to better ensure that their charges have viable new lives wherever they end up. Particularly, they often look to those who have themselves exchanged an old life for a new one, providing a positive outlet for what may have once been less-than-wholesome skills. In addition, the order requires its members be able to fight with a blade.

Mien

The Knights bear a distinctive mien — their mouths are invisible to any who can see beneath the Mask. This may take the form of lacking a mouth altogether, the face being partly concealed by mist, or a veil that, rather than being true clothing, is integral to the mien. This does not prevent speech, though it may add odd features to the voice.

Privileges

  • The Shadowkiss: By lowering his face to some part of the recipient’s body and spending one Glamour, the Knight may, for a day, impose a -3 dice penalty to all attempts to uncover information about the recipient. Even the Knight himself is subject to the effects, preventing the information from being tortured out of him. Once a day passes, the changeling can extend the effect for another day by spending another point of Glamour; he needn’t be anywhere near the recipient to activate this extension. Fellow Knights of Utmost Silence cannot be targeted by this privilege.
