Order of the Story Heroes

The Order of the Story Heroes is an entitlement focused on victory through quickness of wit.

Background

This order was founded in 1813 in honor of story tale characters who succeeded in their endeavors by way of cleverness. A rapidly-growing entitlement, it is almost aggressively egalitarian, with high-class members expected to treat their lower-class brethren as equals, a policy that has led to rumblings among the more powerful in many freeholds.

Organization

A highly non-hierarchical order, members of this entitlement are not inclined to follow orders. The closest thing to organization is the willingness of members to help one another, with members often forming motleys; and the centralized headquarters in Berlin, where a roster is kept of members and their locations.

Joining and Membership

Prerequisites: Wits 3, Investigation 1, Subterfuge 2
Title: Knights of Story, The Order of Clever Commoners, Tricksters

The order will seek out those who are known to have overcome danger through cleverness, offering a place among their number. Changelings may also petition for membership. A group of Tricksters will verify claims, admitting those whose stories hold true. Unusually, successfully lying one’s way into admittance is acceptable; once the lie falls apart, though, the liar is expected to prove his or her worth. Should the Trickster prove a coward, he or she will be dismissed from the order.

Any kith or seeming may enter the order, though those whose focus is stealth, deception, or cleverness (e.g. Mirrorskins or Palewraiths) are more common.

Mien

A Knight’s mien will shift by displaying some symbol honoring the deed that permitted him or her entry. Additional adornments will similarly follow other truly heroic deeds that the Knight performs.

Privileges

  • Privilege: Tricksters may spend one Glamour to eliminate a dice penalty on a roll. On such rolls, she may gain no other bonuses on that roll, simply rolling an unmodified dice pool. This does not apply to Defense, though it may be used on other combat penalties (e.g. called shots). In addition to this ability, those in this order gain one dot of the Fame merit as applies to Lost society.
