Authority (Vector)

Authority is the vector of the Cryptocracy. Power is meaningless, after all, unless you use it.

Abilities

Surveillance ●

The Cryptocrat can tap into any surveillance or communication network by touching one component of it.

Edges:

  • Beasts, Deviants: these Cryptocrats can also temporarily deactivate any one node in the network.
  • Changelings, Demons, Werewolves: the network can also detect things that would not normally be visible to it, such as spirits or ghosts.
  • Hunters, Mages: being the closest to baseline humans, these Cryptocrats get a bonus to Surveillance rolls and may use Wits instead of Intelligence.
  • Mummies, Prometheans, Sin-Eaters, Vampires: can access data from "dead" nodes in the network.

Specializations:

  • Invasives: the Remade now has a permanent link to the network
  • Task Force: VALKYRIE: access to the network lasts longer.

The Boss is In ●●

For a short period of time, the Cryptocrat can masquerade as an authority figure to a mundane group at a local level. They gain the Connected Condition and temporary Status dots related to the organization.

Edges:

  • Beasts, Changelings, Deviants, Prometheans: this power functions as Contacts in the organization rather than Status - they know a guy.
  • Demons: can extend the duration of their false authority
  • Hunters, Sin-Eaters, Werewolves: the Connected Condition persists after the other effects fade.
  • Mages, Mummies, Vampires: success on this roll allows the purchase of Allies or Contacts dots for this organization later on at a reduced cost.

Specializations:

  • Cephalists: if impersonating a specific individual, they get a bonus to all rolls.
  • The Cheiron Group: the temporary Status dots persist longer and can be made permanent.

Plutomancy ●●●

The Cryptocrat acquires an additional source of funding. Spending this money the right way makes almost anything possible.

Edges:

  • Beasts, Deviants, Hunters, Mummies: Each Plutomancy point can be converted into two dots of Willpower.
  • Changelings, Demons, Mages, Prometheans, Sin-Eaters, Vampires, Werewolves: Each Plutomancy point can be converted to one dot of Willpower or one point of the cryptocrat's corresponding fuel stat (Glamour for the Lost, Aether for the Unchained, etc.)

Specializations:

  • Anakim: the Beast can use their Plutomancy rating as a bonus on any roll to intimidate, threaten, or cow someone.
  • Undertakers: these Cryptocrats gain extra an extra Plutomancy point every chapter.

Panopticon (Teamwork) ●●●●

Two Cryptocrats working together can tap into anything a targeted individual sees and hears.

Edges:

  • Changelings, Deviants, Mummies: Once the Panopticon is in effect, the users can switch from their current target to anyone that target can see or hear.
  • Demons, Hunters, Mages: These Cryptocrats can nudge their target to perform minor actions.
  • Prometheans, Sin-Eaters: it doesn't matter if the target is blindfolded, deaf, or even dead - the Panopticon shows what they would see and hear if they were able.
  • Beasts, Vampires, Werewolves: the Panopticon also picks up scent and rudimentary emotional cues from those around the target.

Specializations:

  • Darklings can pick up on any supernatural abilities affecting the target.
  • Maa-Kep: the Panopticon effect auto-translates all languages and writing, make all codes or allusions clear, and provides context for everything that happens.

The Big Lie (Teamwork) ●●●●●

Three Cryptocrats working a "strategy session" can fabricate a headline news story. For the next 48 hours, this story dominates all news outlets.

Edges:

  • Beasts, Changelings, Deviants: As long as the news story is true, no one attempts to challenge or question it for the full 48 hours.
  • Demons, Mummies, Vampires: either the story takes less time to plan, or it lasts an additional 24 hours before anyone tries to question it.
  • Hunters, Mages, Prometheans: A scaled-down story can be generated by two Cryptocrats, but only circulates locally.
  • Sin-Eaters, Werewolves: The story can target the Underworld or the Shadow, and may last up to a week.

Specializations:

  • Invictus vampires can keep the story going by checking with the other Cryptocrats every 24 hours.
  • Mysterium mages can leave a lasting imprint on the mind of their audience long after the the news cycle moves on.
