Genotypal

Genotypal Deviants, also called the Born, are Deviant from birth, due to the circumstances of their conception or delivery.

Overview

While other Origins had a human life that was snatched away from them by the Divergence, many Genotypals have never known anything but being Broken. They were raised in labs or cults, or their parents were also Remade. Such a childhood leaves lingering imprints on a person: one Genotypal was raised as a prophesied savior, another confined to a damp and dingy basement, a third was lucky to get a name in addition to the serial number assigned by their Progenitor.

In some cases, the Genotypal does get a more normal upbringing, by families who either don't know about their Divergence or deliberately hide it from them. This is likely if their Variations and Scars don't start to manifest right away. But they will manifest, eventually, triggered by something in their environment or just their physical maturation. There was never any way to avoid it.

Going Renegade

For those Genotypals raised in isolation, the conspiracy is their family in more than one sense of the word. No matter how twisted or abusive it might be, it's still all they know, and rebellion against that is painful and scary. Conversely, those who do escape are seen as traitors to their families and hunted with a special kind of fury.

Young children who start to manifest the Divergence are a complicated mix of powerful and vulnerable; when they escape, the results tend to be messy.

Origin Factor

The Born often have a different attitude towards their Divergence than other Origins. Even if their Variations and Scars weren't evident right away, they were born Broken and have always been adapted to that state. This translates into a Scar-free dot of a Subtle Variation.

Given how hard it was for them to break free, Genotypal Renegades start play with an extra dot of Conviction.
