Pathological

Pathological Deviants, also known as Accidents, are those whose Divergence occurred through sheer happenstance. This Origin includes Deviants who stumbled upon the Divergence by mistake, as well as those whose Progenitors never meant to create a Deviant.

Overview

Anyone could become a Pathological by virtue of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. A Progenitor often has no direct involvement in the Remaking of an Accident, but occasionally a normal experiment goes wrong, or something does what it's not supposed to, and both experimenter and subject have to deal with the consequences.

Because of the by-chance nature of their Divergence, conspiracies usually have no hand in the creation of a Pathological, but when they become aware of one's existence, they are often eager to study them. Pathologicals are unpredictable, and conspiracies look to find new ways to control the factors that created them.

Going Renegade

Because they weren't Remade by a conspiracy, most Accidents are Renegade by default. It's only when a conspiracy captures or persuades them after the fact that a Pathological might join with it and become Devoted. Conspiracies can provide guidance in dealing with being Broken that many Pathologicals lack. Some become Devoted willingly in order to cope with their Scars.

Not every Pathological becomes Renegade with conviction. Many isolate themselves in remote places, to protect themselves from conspiracies and explore their powers.

Origin Factor

Because of their unpredictable Divergences, Pathologicals gain one Scar-free dot in either an Overt or Subtle Variation, and one extra dot in either Loyalty or Conviction. However, this flexibility also comes with a medium Instability at the start of the chronicle.
